The “Great Wealth Transfer” refers to the massive, multi-generational shift of assets from the baby-boomer generation to younger generations such as Gen X and millennials. It is expected to be the largest transfer of wealth in history, with estimates of up to $124 trillion or more changing hands over the next few decades. (An original projection of $84 trillion grew to $124 trillion thanks to the surge in asset prices during the pandemic.) Many are predicting that this phenomenon will significantly impact the economy—shaping investment markets and, of course, housing.
